Hello- New guy here. Finally got my dream truck. I landed a nice rust free 2001 with the 7.3. It is Estate Green with a tan leather interior. I have a pile of parts sitting and waiting for me to start the work. I love this beast, now to hammer out the 20 years of it sitting and being a 4x a year tow vehicle.
I have been reading and looking through all that has been posted and shared on this forum and I have only made the first 60 pages. The wealth of knowledge is amazing.
Thank you all for sharing and I will post pictures soon!
Welcome Will! I look forward to seeing your project. If you would, go to your personal info and fill out your signature with your vehicle and any mods or additions. That way we can all be on the same page when discussing things. Again-welcome!
Welcome to the EX forum and family!
I'm always happy to see another Fireman onboard here, there are several EX guys here that are part of that brotherhood also! I spent 30 years with a busy suburban Dept and retired a few years ago as Deputy Chief, most rewarding thing I've ever done.
Hey guys- Currently, I am doing an oil change (K&N oil filter), replacing the HPOP fittings and o-rings. Replacing the oil pedestal mounts. Then doing the trans cooler swap, along with the filter and fluids (factory ford). I am swapping the stupid hubs for a set of warn premiums.
Next big item will be ball joints and front end rebuild- just do it all at once, some needs it, other will be called preventative.
After that, next big steps will be some lighting improvements. I am planning an 05 headlight conversion with grill, and doing a projection HID conversion on those housings. Considering swapping the fogs over to amber LED at that point as well.
Interior mods, planning on the stupid center console coming out and putting in the jump seat. Swap over the interior lighting to LEDS in either green or red, and adding the dome bypass switch. Of course my front seats need new covers and heaters replaced.
I am hoping to do the spring swap and air bags in the rear for my enclosed 28' car hauler- but that will wait a couple years until my youngest is tall enough to make the leap to a taller truck (he's 2 right now).
It's never going to be an off road monster- not am I hoping my CFO will allow me to put big numbers out of the engine.
WE3ZS- the user name goes back like 25 years when the internet first started for me- it's a reference to historic reenacting. I have done my share of fire fighting stuff in the US Coast Guard as a machinery tech (15 years), along with flooding and toxic gas drills. Now I live a slightly more sedate life working as the 2nd shift Central Energy Plant operator at a local hospital. I like to tell people I am like a thermos, I keep hot stuff hot and cold stuff cold.
Watcher 58- I am going in to make up my Signature as we speak- I promise!
Matt- I will look through the guide right after signature.
Don't K&N, they suck. Seriously absolutely they suck at filtering. Many independent tests as well as several performed at the shop I worked at verified it. They can filter properly if the oil is metered exactly, but then you're losing some air flow as well. Don't waste your time with em.
Not a K&N air filter- a K&N oil filter. I like them for their cage nut. They cost a bit more than others, but I'm willing to pay for the reduction in irritation on removal of filters, They used to have a better valve and more filtering material, now I'm not sure if they are still better than others, but I have gotten so used to the easy pull I put them on my whole fleet.
Air filters are for people who are making A LOT more power than I am. I feel pretty happy with the Ford OEM units for now. I worry more about frequency than I do name brand.
Oh geez that makes way more sense, haha. I saw oil and K&N filter and automatically went to their air filter in my mind.
With the FL1995 being as huge as it is, I tend to not have trouble cranking the filter off by hand. I try to stick to Motorcraft, but I can understand the easy of removal with the nut on the K&N. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't had to take the wrench pliers to mine a few times.
