Hey everyone, i am almost due for some new tires on my truck... i have the stock 20" rims on a 2008 F350
at the moment i have the Nitto Grappler tires but i think im rather unimpressed by them. i would like to get some tires that are highway warriors and also can embarrass some snow when needed. I dont go offroad a whole lot, truck is mostly hauling loads via highway or getting me from A to B in bad weather.
Trying to decide on tires is not easy, I just spent the last month researching and finally decided on the toyo open country at2. No experience yet as I'm putting them on Friday but heard/read they handle great on dry/wet road (95% of my driving) and fine on hunting trails. Read tons of reviews and seems like people have had good luck with them in snow too. I'm not sure if you have the trail or terra grapplers but if you want something a little more aggressive than the toyo oc 2, I would also suggest the cooper s/t maxx. I had them on my ram 2500 and loved them, very slight hum on the highway (drowned out by the radio) and did awesome in the snow. I would have gotten those again but they are not offered in a 296/65/20 and I didn't want to do a 35x12.50. Others might have different suggestions but just my .02, hope this helps.
I've got 1 winter on the BFG TA/KO2 tires. They work well in snow and rain, have aggressive looks, but have a fairly quiet ride on the highway. They also work well when towing, no squirm when loaded.
I haven't had them long enough for a comment on wear (under 10k) but so far they are wearing great.
Cooper Maxx are very popular around here and are as tough as they come. A slightly more hwy suited tire is the Cooper AT3. I had them on a diesel and they did great all around and when I drove the pass in the snow/ice, never felt like I needed more snow traction. I also like the Toyo AT2's as well. These tires lead my list.
I've got a set of Firestone Destination A/T's on my '99 F-250 and am happy with them for mostly highway stuff. They're not terribly aggressive, but they do have some grip and seem to work well for occasional off-road or snow use.
I went full highway with the Michelin LTX M/S 2. They are quiet, ride very well and actually did very well in light snow & ice with my F250, I think mostly because the truck is so heavy. Fantastic in the rain.
On Tirerack a lot of people are getting well past 50k miles with then. I'm at 20k so far and they are barely worn down.
Not the cheapest and they don't look nearly as cool as an AT tire. But much more practical.
Nokian Rotiva AT Plus. I run hotshot for oilfield in the PA area. On my third set, averaging 50,000 miles, not properly rotated, towing heavy. They are superb in winter & heavy rain too.
I have the same usage as the OP and I went with the Michelin LTX A/T2 from Costco. Great tire at a good price. I was planning on the Cooper AT3 XLT, but Costco had a promotion on Michelins that really lowered the price. I have over 45K so far and am happy, still lots of tread remaining. Good Luck, Russ

Same ones I have, so far I'm happy with them, being in Montana I drive in all sorts of conditions.
Revival of an old thread, but I am on my 4th set of Michelin LTX M/S 2's. All have gone over 60K miles.
A word of caution to those ordering tires online. You never know what you are getting exactly which is why they might be cheaper than other places. I always have the tire store order them in with a matched date code. this way the RM's, process conditions, etc. they were produced with are all the same. When I got mine he told me they had them in stock, but none had matching date codes, almost never do. I've seen tires two years old sold as "new". Yup, new as in never mounted, but far from new.
BTW, date code looks like 19 21 which xlates into the 19th week of 2021
