I purchased a solid 72 F250 with many many new parts in need of a transmission. Cleaned up the interior and installed a BP C6. Damn, what a sweet pickup!
Basically, it's the heavy duty 700 hp version set up with roller bearings and shifting patterns for towing. It stays in 1st & 2nd a bit longer with real firms shifts. $2100 bucks including 1800 stall converter, core & shipping. Running stock 360 FE. I added a B&M deep pan.
Unfortunately, BP is a one man shop and he's backed logged for months. It took 4 months to get the tranny. Communication is good. He answers emails and returns calls once a day. And he let me break it up into 2 payments. He did mention that once he's 2 months back ordered, he'll stop taking orders, but he is already there.
Two grand is about right for a performance transmission. In a truck verses a muscle car, the jury is still out... Knowing that this BP transmission should outlast anything I throw at, it's worth the money. Bearings instead of thrust washers & bushings, so dirt will be an issue and hopefully no defects in manufacturing of the bearings, I should be good to go!
I love this pickup! I've had Rancheros my whole life but they're not big enough to tow old wooden boats.
Is there any way to modify the rate that the clutches are applied other than a shift kit? My C6 make me want to let up on the pedal when it's going to shift. Sitting behind my 460 it wants to have my head test the hardness of the rear window at every shift. It has some shift kit in it, obviously, but since it came that way already installed I don't know if it's like a Stage 1 or Stage 2 style of kit.
Does this tranny just shift firm but not like hockey slap shot?

Maybe you can install your own shift kit. Just buy a mellow one.

That's what I figured, but I put the question to Broader since I have an email string still open with him. He has yet to answer.
My BP C6 shifts hard but with the old 360, it hardly has enough kick to spill the coffee cup on the dash! I just accelerate quickly off the line then pull my foot off the gas and it shifts smoothly. Works for me.
"He will need to either replace the valve body or remove the shift kit. The problem with the shift kit is he will most likely not have the parts he needs to put it back to stock. It will probably be easier to get another valve body."
Best to replace the valve body. I know on the shift kits I've installed, something is usually drilled out or plugged up, in addition to the change of springs and whatnot. A hole or a plug is hard to revert back.
