E4od (reman) acting up

I have the truck running fine with a Ford reman(4x4 style) in a 91 7.3 super duty. I put in a new solenoid pack, repaired the harness, new tc.
It has ran fine but sometimes reverse isn't there, other times it is. When in park, it will sometimes make a rattling/scraping sound from underneath.
Up until today the of light hasn't flashed at all.
Sometimes the shifts are off alittle too and it downshifts too much. And today it sounded like while at stop lights a couple times like a loud clunk in the tranny, but still ran pretty good.

I checked for codes and it is giving me just the 111 all clear code.

So the O/D light doesn't flash? Is your tachometer erratic, or does it work smoothly?

Reverse in the E4OD is hydraulic/mechanical - so it should just work, regardless of what the computer is trying to do. It may indicate you have valvebody or mechanical problems.

Anyone seen a solenoid pack coil come apart before? I pulled the pan and found the fluid black and noticed that one of the towers had the cover to it bent all up and chunks of it in the pan.

Well a integrated solenoid valve would definitely cause a fluid pressure loss.

See if replacing the solenoid pack solves your problem - you also need to make sure the gasket is intact.

That solenoid pack looks cooked to me. I doubt the transmission fluid could generate enough heat to do that, I suspect something electrical.

Would putting a new solenoid pack in it fix my reverse even thought the fluid is black and sludge is in the pan?
Keep in mind the dipstick is clean when I checked it

The solenoids are not used for reverse. Changing them will do nothing to help reverse.

If a solenoid could cause fluid pressure loss, then that could theoretically impact reverse right?

IF the solenoid pack has failed in such a way that its venting line pressure, it could cause an issue.

I've never seen a solenoid issue cause a reverse problem. I suppose it might be possible, but I can't come up with a way it could happen.
