Battery light came on once last week. Truck went in on Thursday for an oil change and figured I would asked them to check the batteries and if the alternator was outputting what it should (I had already done these myself). I tested both batteries and they were weak, alternator was putting out 14.2/14.3. They charged me $60 for diagnostics to tell me one battery was failing. Ive had both my trucks serviced there religiously, as well as all warranty (and some out of warranty) work for 13+ years. For a $130.00 oil change figured they would have thrown me a bone. Wasn't happy they charged me (granted I did not ask if there would be a charge) but that's a story for another day.
This morning Interstate Battery confirmed that both batteries were in need of replacement (6 years old so had no doubts). I replaced both batteries while there, started it up pulled away and the battery light came back on. Its going back to the Ford dealer tomorrow (I have a Ford extended warranty), but in the interim any thoughts, so I can go in prepared and educated?
Was able to test it myself now that the battery light is on full time, last week it was intermittent and I didn't have the opportunity to test it with the light on. Its only showing 12.5v when running. So it looks like its the alternator. We will see what the experts at Ford say tomorrow.
