Since the discussion is Widowmakers and the discussion seem to be wide open, and we have a couple very knowledgeable folks into the discussion, I am going to pose the question. What were the designers of the RH-5 deg trying to accomplish?
What was the expected benefit over the proven split ring wheel or solid ring as used on many trucks of that period and before? Just looking at one disassembled is enough to make me skeptical of the design.
Wow, I am almost speechless. I have to wonder how much destructive testing or real world testing those things got. To think they would gather less dirt, moisture, rust, etc than the split rim? Some of the statements are unreal.
