Lifted F250 Steering Problems

So I have read a lot of threads on here that are similar to my problems but still mine is a bit unique to the ones I have read so I figured I would make my own.

I own a 2008 F250 with an 8" lift and 40" tires. My steering wheel has a ridiculous amount of slack in it. I can turn the steering wheel almost 90 degrees clockwise before I can feel it "catch" and the wheels start to turn right. In the other direction it is not quite as bad. I can turn the wheel counterclockwise about 45 degrees before it catches. This is very frustrating and nerve racking when driving since I have to turn the wheel a crazy amount to make a slight adjustment and many times I have to keep my wheel turned 60 or so degrees clockwise to maintain going straight. After you pass those angles, it will turn fine.

Additional info that may or may not help: All boots in the steering system are slightly cracked, spewing a little bit of grease (drag link boots, tie rod boots, etc). I feel like these may contribute to my steering problems but I feel like the most problematic guy is my steering gear box??? I'll post pictures of the steering system later today.

I'm probably going to want to buy a heavier duty everything (steering-wise). Any good and affordable options?

It sounds like you really need a steering box. I would check your ball joints to make sure they are tight and that there is no play and the track bar bushings. There are redhead steering boxes supposed to be better more heavy duty than stock they are more than a stock box but haven't seen but a few bad reviews. Some of the parts store boxes have lifetime warranties if you look at those I would only get one that offered that.
