Hey peeps, well I am in the middle of transferring from one unit to another and I have 2 weeks of leave in-between. The old Ford is getting some well deserved love. Starting with fuel tanks. PO had someone installed an older model F150 side saddle fuel tank which they also installed the wrong fuel pump. So she is getting the correct 19 gallon and all new sending unit and pump. The rear started leaking when full, so I opted for the 38 extended tank and all new pump and sending unit. I have modified the pump just need to modify the sending unit. But while the rear tank was out I am currently right in the middle of changing the rear gears. 3.08's with 32" tires is not a good combo for towing or the mountains I have to drive through to get home. So out comes a brand new set of Ford racing 3.73 with a trac lock instead of leaving it open.
While the axles are out I noticed I need to change out the axle seals and got to looking at the axles themselves and I have deep groove on the driver's side and rust pitting on the passenger. So, hit up Rock Auto, got two brand new Dana Axles coming and new National bearings to match. Once the rear is done, I was going to do the same to the front with changing gears.
I also plan to swap in some Rotorcraft copper core plugs and do the timing pump. I also have a new gasket for the side cover that is leaking pretty good. I will then drop in the summer 165 degree thermostat so the truck will like the hot Virginia summer a little better. And I noticed when I came back from last patrol my headlights were fogged over yet again and there was a lot of condensation in them, so I sprang for a new set of head lights.
Well today got the rear diff all squared away. Just waiting to get the rear axles and new bearings and seals in from RockAuto. Cleaned up the fatory diff cover and painted, installed new wiper motor and new headlights.
