After 8 years my Sears Platinum Die Hards are showing their age. Before they fail I want to get them replaced. According to the local Sears store they don't have the Platinums anymore. I guess they lasted too long and worked too well. Do you guys have a brand that/type has proven itself? Thanks!

Interstate batteries are top of most lists and that is probably who made your Sears batteries. Costco carries them too under either the Kirkwood name or Interstate. They used to have Kirkwood label on them but at least at my store they just say Interstate on them now
If you have a membership, Costco is an excellent choice and still good if you don't. I realize that there is not one in Hickory, however the 42 month, non prorated return policy coupled with the reasonable initial purchase price justifies the drive to Charlotte IMO.
You might be able to hook up with your local Interstate dealer. They have their own fleet and deliver to their customers and you might be able to get them to deliver to you. It is worth a try. http://www.interstatebatteries.com/D...9&name=Hickory
Motorcraft, interstate, or Costco. I've had a few motorcraft batteries in gassers over the years that were between 8-10 years old before they finally gave up the ghost. I've only ran motorcraft in my 7.3l. My mechanic buddy has always used interstate for his shop, but only runs motorcraft in all his personal vehicles, and has had the same crazy luck with his motorcrafts too. One of my motorcrafts came from my bosses wifes 01' wind star that she kept killing with her interior lights being left on. She told the mechanic to just replace it. The mechanic at work gave it to me because it tested fine. In 01', I had put it in a 68' f100 that would sit for 6 months at a time. I sold the truck in 2011 and the battery was still working fine.
I just had to get two new batteries for my Excursion two weeks ago, and almost could not find ANY local sources for 850 CCA batteries. Finally found a local store with a few Duralast Golds. I was in a really tight pinch, though, having to locate and install the batteries on my way to the airport for a 4-day business trip, so I did not have time to wait for or do a trial-and-error run though Costco. I looked at the Interstates at my Costco this past weekend, though, and they have the right batteries for $89 each, which is much better than the DLG's I bought for $119 each. Still, I had to do what I had to do at the time.
Point is... Costco has a killer price on the highly reputable Interstates for our vehicles!
On my last battery swap I made the plunge for a pair of the new AGM batteries. Not Optimas but the ones the parts stores are starting to carry. I've been running them for about a year now and so far so good. The biggest difference I see is that the ends haven't needed to be cleaned like I was always doing with the lead acid batteries.
I've always kept good batteries in it, usually replace them every 5 years. I've never had electrical problems, still using the stock starter after 300,000 miles.
