Coolant lines/intake manifold

I sprang a leak on one of the lines that go into the top of the intake manifold, the one on the left. Are these replaceable/repairable? 2000 Ranger, 3.0L.

Ok, doing some research on this, it doesn't look like i want to attempt to replace the intake manifold. I've read online about a popular mod, where people actually bypass this but i need to read some more as there are some arguments about it's benefit. I could also try a longer hose and just cover the pin hole. I guess i could always try to seal the hole with something like JB weld... probably the cheapest option

Looks like that coolant needs to be changed. Or maybe I'm imaging things.
I see the pin hole and, as you said, you might be able to cover it with a hose and some JB Weld. It's worth a try.
About a dozen years ago, I ran into one of these where the tube had completely snapped off at the base. I managed to drill it to a slightly larger size and I screwed in a threaded nipple for a permanent repair.

Looks like cooling system could use a good flush to me !!!!!! I got a little plastic kit from a local parts place for less than ten bucks. I did not think much of it because of it cheap construction. I gave it a try anyway ,,,,simple to install it came with a connector that went into the heater hose that had a cap that would unscrew and hook water hose from house right up. It also had a little plastic deal that you put in place of that rad cap that shot the water out over the front bumper. Start truck turn on water hose and wait till water is clean,,,, so simple,,, then refill with anti freeze. Oh turn on heater too and it flushes the heater core.. Remove water hose and recap with supplied cap and leave the connector in heater hose. Kit came with everything even the hose clamps.

About 2 months ago my neighbor had the same problem with his 2.5 liter Ranger I just capped the TB heater hoses, but this is So. California where it never gets very cold

If you live where it gets very cold, you should fix it.

back in the day when we be all trying to get more HP's out of these 4-bangers, I think capping was an option so the intake never gets hot.
As long as it don't throw a CEL, it's worth a try.
me being cheap, I'd try the JB weld

The only prroblem with capping off the throttle body heater is that in very cold weather the throttle plate can ice up & the throttle can get stuck at full throttle. Not good

Yeah, some guys claim to get a little extra power from this mod. Asked the neighbor if he noticed any more power. He said it ran the same. He's 28 years old, but he drives like an old woman so I don't know if he would notice.

Well the whole top snapped off so i'm going to clean that up then splice and extend the hose all the way down the port.

Hey Chiver thanks for the answer to the message i sent you,,, it was a little late Bigredtruck beat ya to it LOL,,, but great pic and again thanks ,,,, i forget what you call it but i used to get a little gadget at my local parts store that would hook to that broke pipe,,,,assuming whats left of it is not rotted ,,, it was brass with a fitting on both ends and it came in different sizes for different sized pipes,, you cut the broke pipe off smooth with a cutoff wheel,,, and sanded it with emery cloth or whatever to make it smooth you unscrewed one end of the gadget and a little round ferrial would be there ,,,just slide the end you unscrewed down the pipe,,, and the ferrial behind it then screw it back together and the ferrial squeezed to the broke pipe making a water tight repair,,,,, same thing on other end with short peace of donor pipe,,, and hook your hose back on,,,, might be the answer to your troubles,,,, i have done this on transmission lines many times to repair a leak,,, do not see why it will not work there,,, unless pipe is just rotted to bad ,,, oh and if you have not please read my above post about flushing the system the little gadget there works well too,,,,good luck

Thanks spooktn, i need to find something like that, i'm pretty sure i have plenty of good material left. I struck out today, my plan was to cut off the bad part and splice the heater hose to go all the way down the pipe. I measured the existing hose at 5/8" OD 1/4" ID but i couldn't find any heater hose that small anywhere- Advance, Auto Zone, O'Reilly... none. They all did, however, have fuel line that small, i wasn't sure if that would work. One quick Google search i did on my phone acted like you shouldn't use fuel line for coolant for an extended period of time. Anyone know if there's any truth to that?

Well, now i'm F'd! Worked on this last night and wouldn't you know, the other one broke. No big deal i thought, better now then down the road, i'll just buy another splice and a couple more hose clamps tomorrow. I get home tonight, get my hose ready, it goes on about halfway and no further, i try to take it off and it snaps at the base. So now i guess i get to see if i can tap that hole and screw a fitting in. I assume the intake is cast aluminum, can i even use a brass fitting with that???

A brass fitting should be fine. I think I would get one that has the barbs to hold the line, or at least has a 'rib' to help retain the tubing.
You should be able to crush that fitting a bit, and pull it out. I think I would get a small vice-grip to clamp onto it. Use a chisel on one side towards the center to reduce the friction as it collapses a bit???
I hate working on that kind of stuff, as I always mess it up. Things just don't go as I imagine they are going to. If worst comes to worst, you can drive the remainder into the intake, but you'll have to get a magnet to fish out the bits after removing the upper manifold, I think.
