I'm sure many of y'all know this, but in case you don't, or if you haven't thought about it in a while.
While continuing to strip paint on my cab, I realized the rear corners were completely full to the floorboard on both sides as I washed the stripper with a hose and nozzle.
I stuck my hand down in the rear corners and I'll tell you, it was a literal cornucopia of trash. There where candy bar wrappers, gas station carbon paper receipts, nails, washers, pencils, cigarette foil, not to mention about 3/4" of muck and mud. I got to thinking that I probably needed a tetanus shot while I was feeling around in there.
I spent almost half an hour cleaning out each side of the distgusting mess.
I don't recall when I was driving my truck ever cleaning these out. I did clean out the door drain holes, but never the cab corners. They aren't much bigger than a 1/4" so it doesn't take much to plug them.
There are also two drain holes in floor pan rib where the gas tank sits that need to be cleaned as well.
The corner holes are here. Sorry. I didn't get a picture from the underside.
This is the hole in the floor pan rib. There is one on each side.
I know that many of you may be like me and never have thought about these. Also, I know many folks have cleaned and reapplied undercoat to the bottom floor pan and may not have thought to make sure they were clear after you got finished.
You're right to point this out. If water lies it doesn't take long at all to do damage. I found some old tools down there but not much else. The tools faired worse than the cab corners mind you! Not sure what the answer is other than a regular check though. Something to bear in mind when you trim it that you might slow evaporation and restrict access.
My cab corners were the same. Lots of junk and trash in there. It doesn't take much to fill up those drain holes. I have thought about filling up those rat holes with foam. Has anyone done that?
