Bringing back deleted rear ac

I'm looking for advice to bring back my rear ac. Mechanic said replace the rear lines and evaporator. With labor 1500. Ouch I want rear ac but not that bad. Problem is the rear ac was blocked off five or more years ago. I would guess a line leaked and that was cheaper for the po.

I've read about splice kits to fix leaks. Read about others problems. I think what I need is an unbiased opinion. Can I get aftermarket lines? Or should my existing lines be reconnected and then find the leak? Ive heard some people use nitrogen or Even propane to charge the lines looking for leaks.

Has my system continued to deteriorate since it was disconnected?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

No matter what you will need a new expansion valve because it's been open to the elements for so long. Try hooking it back up and see where it's leaking. It's usually around a clamp where it corroded around the line. They do make repair kits, sometimes they work and sometimes they have a slow leak!

I assume your front AC still works? If so, it sounds like they used truck lines up front, as the Ex (with rear AC) hoses split for the rear AC. If this is the case, you'll need some hoses up front, and will need to reclaim the refrigerant to switch over.

Nitrogen is commonly used to leak test AC systems, as it's a somewhat inert, non-flammable gas.

I'd search out some Excursions in the salvage yards to see what you can get. A rear evaporator from a salvage vehicle will probably be fine. You'd just have to inspect the hard lines and see.

An A-C O-ring kit is less than 10 bucks at Rock Auto- and the connections where these O-rings are used make up a majority of automotive refrigerant leaks. My opinion is- if you have to open the system anyway, why not re-ring it since it's so cheap?

Here's where they deleted the lines to the rear ac. Yes my front ac works great. But 95' days it's slow to cool down that big interior.

Ok so I really have no idea how these lines fastened. Were they a compression fitting?

Ultimately I would like to find the leak. Replace any bad part s or use a splice. Then finally flush and recharge?
