A/C questions

Here I am asking yet another question lol OK so on my 84' f150 someone took all the a/c stuff off. I mean everything! The only thing left is the hoses going into the heater box! So here's my question(I seem to have a lot of those) how hard would it be to get the a/c back on this truck? I know the compressor and condenser and a few other things but would it be worth the money to do it if I was to decide to replace all that stuff? And also what would cause my fan to only run on high and for air to only come out the dash vents when I switch to defrost, feet etc.

On my truck, the fan would only blow out the vent also (sux for winter time when needing to defrost the windshield). The cause of this is a broken blend door inside the air ducts behind the dash. I "fixed" this by manually moving the blend door by sticking my hand up the open heater core box. Then, I disconnected the vacuum hose that goes to the broken blend door. Now I can switch between defrost and floor but I get no vent. The AC condenser and stuff works, but is ineffective because it's not pumped out the vent.

The reason for the broken blend door is because it was made of plastic. In Ford's wisdom, they simply crimped a piece of plastic so it would fold and called it good. Over time, the plastic hinge finally breaks from brittle plastic and use. The accepted fix is to get a small "piano hinge" at the hardware store, take apart the dash, and fix the broken blend door by affixing the hinge.

I also have another vehicle where the fan speed is "stuck on high" but I did this myself. The fan speed switch in the cab was not functioning, so I wired the blower motor directly to power. Now, when I turn the AC controls to anything but off, it runs at high speed. Again, another "fix" that doesn't really fix anything.

Gotcha gotcha. Thats probably what I end up having to do to get the blend door working. I'd like to get all the air system in a somewhat working order

2 different types of A/C were available for these trucks. The parts do not interchange!

Which type of A/C is it? If it's factory installed, it's combined with the heater.

So if all of the A/C parts have been removed, you no longer have a heater.

Upper pic: Factory installed integral A/C

Lower pic: Dealer installed A/C

Not sure. The heater still works. The compressor and condenser are the only things actually gone as far as I can tell so I probably over exaggerated a little bit when saying that everything was taken off when really like I said it's just the compressor and condenser and a few other things missing haha

You did not say what motor you have but thinking if a v8 someone may have the needed brackets, pullys, etc. for the compressor.

I need anew condenser for my 81 as the PO put the water pump thru it when he pulled motor to sell.
Anyway auto zone list my condenser and I will also replace the dryer because of age and system being open for a long time and orifice valve along with all O rings.
I was told the hoses should be ok to use with todays 134a.

Oh because the motor was sold I also need the compressor brackets, etc. but I do have the York compressor. Mine is a 300 I6 little harder to find the brackets.

Good luck and keep us posted on how you make out.

351w. I believe that the compressor bracket is still on but I'm not sure about the condenser brackets. I might have to have one new line because one of them got kinked. Would that call for a new hose or can it be used as long as it don't leak? I'll keep y'all posted for sure!

I would say if the line is kinked I would just replace it.
Some AC shops or better parts stores can make them for you just take the old one to match up.

I think the line hooks on to the coil that is kinked. Would I have to take the whole coil out or can I take it off without removing the coil?

When you said line I thought rubber line as in hose.

I would check with a shop to see what they say. Could be you cut off the kink and they have a fitting to repair it. Then maybe a longer hose?

BTW I think you are talking about the evaporation coil that is in the HVAC box. You can also get them ( factory ac) thru AZ also.

On the line it looks like you can undo it a little bit lower and have the rubber line in hand to take to a shop to have one made up.

It looks like you are missing the dryer as it bolts to that plate and screws into that other fitting and I think the other hose goes into the other end of the dryer.
I would have to check mine over to make sure how it is put together. Mine was also apart when I got it but all parts other than motor brackets were there.

Oh I was going to say mine uses a York piston type compressor.
It looks like yours uses a different type Sanden maybe?
