black smoke?

not changing my oil in over 10,000 miles.
will that have an effect on the black smoke coming out my tailpipe under load?
i have 215,000 miles on it and the injectors still seem fine. i just barely passed
emissions out here in colorado. where should direct my attention?

It could cause the injector not to fire efficient also that 10k mod isn't helping you either

why have you gone so long between oil changes? If you are running normal dino oil then I would change it. Do you do oil sample testing?

'clean 97' doesn't like 'clean' oil, clean motor or a motor that will last! Sorry, I don't mean to criticize but I just went 7K on Schaeffer's oil and felt bad about it. I run a oil by pass also. My oil sample came back good though.

thanks for the info mike, the 10k mod was removed 2years ago when i got the ts 6 position chip, just had not updated my signature yet.

be nice glenn. actually 10,000 miles was the last time i changed the oil personally, but i just ran across a jiffy lube receipt from 2800 miles ago. sometimes its hard to keep track when u only put about 1000 miles a year on the vehicle.i was just hoping for a simple fix.

back to my post, right at the limit for passing emissions. 35% opacity at 40 mph. with the chip removed. engine has good compression. before i dump money on new injectors i was just wondering what else i could check and eliminate from the equation

I'm always nice John, LOL. I should explain, 90° of my miles are very hard pulling miles. I'm always working it hard pulling 17K pounds and I don't have a light foot. But traveling across the country sometimes I don't have a place to change the oil. That's why I run what I feel is the best oil, Schaeffer's, because it doesn't get sheared down by the hpop.

Chip actually removed or just in stock position?
Cause most "stock tunes" are a little beefed up.

I think black smoke is due to either too much fuel, not enough air or all of the above. How is your turbo boost pressure under load? If your turbo is acting up and not delivering enough air it could cause black smoke under load.

So that you have a better idea of what's going on in your motor, extra gauges such as turbo boost and exhaust gas temp or some sort of scan gauge are just about a requirement on these trucks if you're towing heavy loads.
