I have talked to multiple people that have converted over to RP and they told me that thay have been burning lots of oil. They have been adding 2 qt. in a 2 month period. Has anyone had any issues like this when making the change? I can't see having to add an extra 2 qt. in every 2 months at 7.00 dollars a qt.
Are they smoking something? (RP, that is ) If they burn oil, then there should be some smoke, though I'd be more likely to believe leaking as a main cause of excessive oil consumption.
Not really sure what has been going on with there oil loss. I just wanted to open it up and find out if anyone out there was having this problem before I convert to RP.
On my last oil change I used some SL rated Mobil 1, and not unexpectedly, the engine developed some significant leak. After a bottle of $1.50 (tranny ) stop leak from Big Lots, the leak is back to what it was before.
I've used Royal Purple 5w30 in an Aerostar XLT van (1987) with the 3.0V6 at around 144,000 miles.
Engine ran strong, never burned a drop between oil changes, and never leaked a drop. (Aerostar garaged nightly and when not in use. No drips anywhere in the garage floor).
I have had nothing but excellent results with Royal Purple oil, this also used in 108-110 degree California summer heat. Freeway driving, stop and go traffic with the AC blowing ice-cold.
Again, never used a drop of RP in this vehicle -- hardly an expensive machine.
Yep, use it in my lincoln and no leaks at 156K miles(has used mobil 1 prior). I like the stuff so far, I'm just going to try and find it cheaper than 7 bucks a quart next time.
i think royal purple is overated its no better than amsoil or mobil 1 , we used royal purple in a 454 camaro and i think ill be going back to good old mobil 1 , there no need to spend 7 bucks a quart , keep it clean and ure good to go

Nobody is saying that Royal Purple is the #1 oil, and all other oils are inferior. Many of the outlets that sell Royal Purple set the retail price high, as I'm told it wholesales at around a 15% price point + or - Mobil 1's wholesale cost.
If you can't afford $7 a quart, then by all means, use a cheaper oil. Sure, I'd like to drive a Ford GT-40 to the grocery store, after all both the GT-40 and my truck have four wheels, and both can get me to the store 2 miles down the road...I think there must be a better form of transportation than these expensive cars, the Corvette ZR-1 Ford Mustang GT-500, Dodge Charger SRT-8, Dodge Viper SRT-10, who needs those cars when I can travel in a Ford Focus 10X less, with 5X less insurance rates?
Royal Purple has a solid reputation in motorsports of various forms. Yes it's expensive, but it is a quality product. It would be different if it was some cheap non-detergent junk oil being sold for $7 a quart.
By the way, I just saw Royal Purple for $5.95 a quart and Mobil 1 was $6.25 a quart. Go figure?...
Redline is a very good one as well. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the top synthetics, such as RP, Amsoil, Redline, Mobil1. What worries me is that alot have been reformulating their products. When to really become scared is when they come from China like everything else does.
TORCO Synthetic also makes a great oil, but since they hardly advertise nobody even knows about them -- EXCEPT those building performance race motors for professional and big $$ racing.
RED LINE also, as you said, Iceman.
I simply get annoyed at when i hear people complain about the price per quart, as if paying $7 a quart, in the grand scheme of things, is a big deal? What is the cost of the cheapest, barest new car you can buy today, but people balk at using a quality product at protecting the most vital part of their investment, the engine and it's moving parts?
You'll soon find too, that many who complain about the cost per quart of oil, also have ZERO issues with spending $150 on cartons of cigarettes at Costco. Not all, but they are out there -- LOL
PS Let the record state, I don't use Royal Purple ALL the time, but I have used it (with excellent results) in the past. Those times I do use it, I don't consider it a waste of $$. I also use and beleive in quality dino oil such as Chevron Supreme (5w30 10w30) so it's not as though I am a 100% RP user. I do think they make a great oil, and an excellent line of various lubricants.
man ED thats a steal for royal purple wut store do u get ures at 4 that price ,cuz her its like 2 bucks more a quart for the RP its a good product but im saying for 12 less a change i can still use mobil one which is very good oil, i dont think there is anymore to offer from royal purple than mobil one, correct me if im wrong

I don't either, Mobile1 is good oil, but for what it's worth, my wifes Land Rover has a BMW V6. Dealer changes use Valvoline synth, I used Mobile1 when I did it. That V6 always had a "clatter". Not bad, but it was just noisy, and noticeably worse with the Valvoline when engine was at operating temps than the Mobile1. Last change I drained the mobile1, same brand filter I always use (Mann), that I buy in lots, but used RP in the same weight as the Mobile1 I had just taken out, and when I fired it, it was almost silent. It has been running on the RP for almost 1500 miles now, and has never been this quiet since it was new. Not sure why, and at this point, I don't really care, it works for me. My best guess is it has something to with where each falls on the viscosity scale for a given weight, but I don't know. What I DO know is the Land Rover likes it, so thats what I'll use.
And now I can get RP locally for about the same $ as Mobile1, so I will stick with it and be happy.
