4R100 Intermediate "Diode" Freewheel Failure

4R100 Intermediate "Diode" Freewheel Failure
Has any one had any experience with this known problem with the 4R100 trans? It apparently is on the 4R100 with the build date between 7/22/00 and 3/23/01. This trans. has a diode sprag that is prone to failure and is no longer serviced by Ford Motor Company.
I have a 4R100 trans. in my 2001 F350 and this "sprag" has failed. The truck has 46,000 miles on it, 10,000 out of warranty. Ford knows about the problem because they do not sell the Diode Sprag that is in my trans. anymore. Basically the truck is shifting from first gear to third gear skipping second gear(intermediate gear). I'm am going to go to the dealer to see if they can help me.
Question 1: Has anyone had this problem?
Question 2: Any ideas if I'm stuck fixing the trans?
Question 3: Why is there no recall?
