Hello my name is Eddie just acquired my grandfathers 1972 F250 Camper Special after 6+ years of my brother holding it hostage and doing basically nothing but torture the truck. As far as i know he purchased this truck new off the showroom floor. Its a 1972 F250 Camper Special with the 360 ci motor and C-4 trans? Joined to learn more about these trucks and find the hard to find parts.
Here is the truck as of today 6-14-2016
And for some reason he took engine out and apart and is now sitting in bed. :? :cuss: Debating if I should send block and get it cleaned up or save for a used longblock :dk:

As far as I know he (grandfather) purchased this truck new off the showroom floor.
It's a 1972 F250 Camper Special with the 360 ci motor and C6 trans.
Welcome to FTE
1968/76 F100/350: The only A/T available with the 360 & 390 was the C6.
WOW thanks! Def going to look into doing the CV swap and 3G amp upgrade once I get motor issue sorted. How hard is it to rebuild the transmissions on these trucks?
Hopefully you can keep the projects manageable. I like to keep my '65 on the road so I keep the projects bite sized and complete them in a smallish time frame. Lot of people jump in with both feet and run out of steam before they ever get to drive their classic.
A Jasper longblock ain't a bad way to go just to get a decent engine under the hood until you decide what to do with the original motor. FE's can be tricky if you don't have someone experienced with FE's to help. Once you decide the direction to take on your original FE, the sky is the limit considering the aftermarket parts that are available. I don't have a C6 tranny but I'm guessing you can apply the same approach there as well if you find your C6 needs work.
Looked into to Jasper Engines but couldn't find a price on a reman motor. Took a little break from work to go out and clean up the junk in the bed and sorted what i was keeping and scrapping.
Jasper has their basic 390 Fe for around $3600 (that includes a core if you don't turn in your core and an installation kit). Has a 3 year/100,000 mile warranty.
Looks like a bearing cap laying on top of the block. You want to keep parts like that in case you get this block redone. Also looks like a rocker assembly on top. It can likely be reused with a little re-conditioning as long as you don't go crazy on the cam choice or rpms. Takes a real moron to throw parts around like that to be scratched and collect rust.
Still debating if I should keep block or scrap it and find a longblock. The main caps are all scattered around and no idea what order they go in. Also the cam is rusted in place and some lifter are seized inside.
Welcome to fte congrats on truck. It's going to be a fun build I'm jealous
Idk if this is gonna offend all you ford guys but that would be sick with a 4bt cummins or a power-stroke. I'm ford all the way but I've seen some very nice fummins builds
Soak the cam and such with some WD 40 and store everything more nicely. Might still be good. The right builder can turn it into something nice.
You'd be surprised what some soaking in PB Blaster or other penetrating oil can do. Take 65's advice and invest in doing this and then have the block checked once you get everything out of it. Don't toss anything until you can confirm it's useless. I've saved myself a decent amount of money learning that from others.
