Finally got around to pulling the Hedman shortys off and getting ready to slide the banks headers in. Things have been real busy these past few months with the new job and all. Really hoping I can get this thing past inspection this year.

Found a thread in the head that looks different. Can’t decide if I’ve seen it before, if it’s a helicoil or just a thread broken off.

Making progress Josh! What made you decide on the banks headers? I've never heard of them, but then I haven't heard of much so no surprise there. I'm getting ready to replace my exhaust and want to run headers as well so having a couple options of good reputable brands is always good.

What I've heard about Banks is good. Thick metal for the flanges, stainless steel, properly designed to use OEM mounting hardware. They are not cheap though, that was one thing I never heard about them. I'll let you know how they do once it's fully installed. Still need to get a factory\OEM cat as that is what it's set up for. None of this piecing junk together and having to break out the welder to make it all fit.

Been busy, so just getting back to this. Thought I’d share a comparison of the Banks to Hedman exhaust headers.

Wow.Big difference.Banks makes some high quality stuff. It's so cool to see real made in U.S.A. co's still left like this.Just like back in the day, stuff just built to actually last, you know?
The Banks trubo kits for the old school IDI diesel engines has that same high end look and feel to it all.Sure,it's gunna cost ya but by god,it's gunna last ya too!

Oh,those are long tubes and for the 460! Hmmm.I wonder if I could sneak a set of those in my T-bird.

They aren’t that much longer than the Hedman. What exactly is the difference in long tube vs short tube headers?

Wait a second.... and I'm reading that this has been in 'project mode' for 6 years?!

I mean, the thing is cool but get it on the road before having to decide what wheels to put on!

Ha Ha! Correct. BUT in my defense, I live in an emissions county in North Carolina, and I have very serious doubts about getting it passed the tamper-inspection part of the inspection, with out adding air-injection. In 5 years, that will be a non-issue. Plus, I've got other projects going on, and I am working on a limited budget. Yes, I know it's a poor defense... Better defense.. I'm getting lazier the older I get. The arm chair is more inviting than the shop floor.

It's back on the road - tagged and all. Drove it a couple of times now. Once at night. The old alternator is having quite a time keeping the battery juiced. Just running at night with lights on, the dash dimmed out badly. May also be the old wiring. Going to wire up a 3 g alternator. Also need to wire up the trailer harness. I wish I didn't work so many hours. So much to do this year. But hopefully I'll get things done a little at a time like I always do.

Put one of the rear cab bushings in. the extended cab ones I think are slightly taller than the oem stuff, and the body line isn't lining up. Fought with the other one for a few hours, and quit. Looks like the rear window was leaking right on top of it. So I'll just replace the sleeves as well, when i do it. Still need to pull the interior and give it a good clean and update. But that's going to have to wait a few months. Oh and steering is still really off. But she's driving. And boy did I miss driving it. Can't believe I've had it in the shop since 2012 or 2013 or whenever it was.

I've been driving mine around a bit too, feels good doesn't it? We are gonna have to get our trucks together one of these days, although yours looks a whole lot better than mine, maybe the next dinner.
