05 Making Oil

Hey Guys,

Got an 05 in the shop now making oil, showed some contribution issues on a couple cylinders so the customer is having me inspect/reseal all the injectors if I find no issues.

So with that being said, I found this on 1 of the drivers side injectors Obviously you can see the discoloration or lack of polish on the cup, also the lower white O-ring looks to be nicked. Should I be concerned about this and replace the injector or seal it and run it. This was also 1 of the cylinders that was wet :

FYI,

The injector on the left I have already cleaned and resealed. The injector on the right I wiped down and snapped the photo.

Just wanted to clarify

Anthony made that video with all inject in there holes you can KOEO and use a Flashlight to inspect for fuel leaking up into the Valve cover area

But I would do all since its making oil they seam to wear in hot and cold cycles

the owners only complaint was making oil??

Yeah...but I think I found the REAL reason why. Looks like I may have a cracked nipple cup on the passenger side head. Check out the chocolate milk on this injector:

And that's the standpipe on the passenger head...broken. Ive never seen that before. I assume that he had a long crank concern but never mentioned it.

Hopefully I can see something with my bore scope, its tough to see in there without it with the heater box in the way.

Sarge, in the first pic the copper washer is missing. If not in the injector hole that would cause a lot of problems. Maybe never put on. I know you're an old salt :-) at this. Just saw it.

Yeah my bad, I removed the copper washer as I was trying to clean the injector nipple there with some 0000 steel wool, just trying to see if it was tarnished or further damage.

That's the only injector out of the 8 that looks like that. The chocolate milk injector...well that's obviously more of an issue, and the fact that the stand pipe was broken concerns me some too.

Then I have a question. Will fuel and oil make a milkshake or only oil and water.

I say oil and water, normally when the nipple cups in the head go bad you usually get fuel in the coolant. So honestly there could be something else going on. I have yet to contact the customer and see how far he wants this truck torn down as it has almost 200k on it and being from NY its rotted.

I still have to take a peek around with my scope to see if I can see anything going on.

I see nothing really sticking out at me with my scope. I assume that there is a hair line crack in that head somewhere near the injector cup though.

Anyone else see this maybe point me in a direction? Obviously the head needs to come off.

Yep,I agree. Head got to come off. I read somewhere that there is a fix for bad cups though. I think it was on the .org site. That will defiantly be a easier/cheaper fix.

That is the 2nd broken stand pipe I have seen here on FTE.
Someone else had that happen and was asking about it some
time ago. More than a year I think?

As far as cracks go you can do the crack repair that BPD has.

BPD Cylinder Head Repair Tool, Ford 6.0L

Or just replace the head

I think it may be oil and coolant. I have a small amount of coolant coming into that cylinder from somewhere near the injector nipple cup that I cant see when I pressurize it.

Waiting on the customer to make a decision.
