Hi everybody. Hope someone can clear something up for me. Maybe I'm reading too much into this but we'll see. I'm looking at a new adjustable drop shank from Curt. A large 19" drop shank. #17125. Need it for my slightly lifted F-350 lol. Although I think I would be happy with the shank, the only head that Curt mates to it is one for weight distribution purposes!? Why? The design of the head brings the ball height up of which I'm trying to lower hence the larger drop. I have air bags. I don't need WD setup. Now this could work for me, but do I need the sway bars to meet the capacity of the setup it is rated for? Hope this makes sense to everyone. Thanks for any input.
Air bags do not take the place of a WD setup. They do not do the same thing. Air bags will level you, but they do not distribute load to the front axle the way a WD setup does.

Air bags alone will make your truck more unstable. They stiffen up the rear suspension in effect creating a fulcrum condition. This will lighten the load on the front tires to the point of making it unstable.
Well, probably not much over 12,000. I know the shank is rated over that. Don't like to be on borderline with ratings. Better safe than sorry. I have a pretty strong rear suspension setup. Nothing is stock or original anymore. Just trying to replace my drop shank setup with something a little lower...and legal. Thx guys for your input.

Your shank may be rated for 12000, but you receiver in weight bearing ( non weight distribution) is probably only rated for 6000. It's a recipe for disaster.
