Well I'm back to working on my 1987 F-250 4x4 351w, automatic project. I'm down to unbolting the torque converter from flex plate. All there is for access to the torque converter is the small starter hole. My concern is if I leave TQ. in place on the trans. will I be able to line up during engine replacement. Or should i pull engine with TQ attached. Replace with TQ. attached to the flex plate . Is damage likely this way. HELP
I have no money and limited experience.
Thank You for the answer. Would there be dowel pins to help lineup the engine. Or do you get close and start a bolt or two. Then i suppose one could get the four TRQ. bolts to find flex plate.
There is an access panel on the bottom rear of the trans belhousing you can remove to better access the TC bolts, then make sure the TC stays in the trans when you remove the engine.
yes, there are dowel pins and you must use them during installation. "getting close" and then drawing it in with a bolt is a mistake ... you will damage something. be patient and get those dowel pins lined up. also, during installation, make absolutely sure that the torque converter is fully engaged with the pump on the tranny or your work will be in vain.
