Fuel pump cleaning

On my 2006 6.0 the water in fuel warning kept coming on the dash. After going draining a few times and a few tanks later I knew something wasnt right so I bought a new sensor. When I pulled the old sensor out, it was full of gunk that was like a white jelly. I probably could have just cleaned the old sensor but I put the new one in anyway. My issue went away for a few months when the WIF alert came back. I pulled the sensor out again and sure enough it was gummed up. I've decieded to pull that little panel door off and clean the inside. I have a few questions:

1) Can that oring be purchased seperatley? I looked at the ford website and it appears they only sell it as a kit with some other parts for 40 bucks
2) Can I just reuse my oring if it still looks good?

Thanks!

While it used to be able to be bought for only a few dollars, yes it now part of a kit you don't need.

The o-ring gasket expands in contact with diesel, great if your the engineer spec'ing a gasket that won't leak, but they usually don't fit right back in place. However ... I left my first one on the garage apron and in the sun it defueled and returned to stock size. So now I just flip gaskets whenever I clean out the water trap, drying the just pulled one for a day.

So basically if I dont remove the o-ring gasket from the channel it sits in I should be fine. If it happens to come out when I remove that plate/cover then I can let it air out and hopefully it will shrink to normal size. Lastly if all else fails I will spend 40 bucks lol. Thanks for the info!

Yep. It used to sell for about $8. You're welcome.
