Hey ya'll,
I have an 06 6.0 drw, couple of weeks ago battery light came on, had the system checked and was told my 4yr old batteries needed replacing. Purchased 2 new Motorcraft batteries, within a few days battery light would come on after about 15 minutes of driving and A/C on and would go away after a 5-10 minutes, only after fully warmed up and intermittently. Didn't run any tests, figured I had a bad diode and bought a new not reman 110amp alternator (after market). Now on cold start battery light comes on and will stay on for about 15-20 minutes and then I'm good the rest of the day. I did some research here on the forum but didn't find anything similar. Ground and terminals all look good and clean. Help please!
Take it back! Demand a new 140amp unit... not a reman.
And don't mess around, the FICM health is a risk.
Advance Auto... go on-line, use code TRT30, save $50 and do in store pick-up. The 140amp unit is considered the upper alternator on the ambulance package if they need that info, or the upper unit in the two alt configuration. You want the 140 amp unit.
Correct, Single alt unit.
There is no concern of blowing any boards or anything else down the line by increasing the amps from a 110 to 140 output?
Although I believe that even though advance auto lists it as a 140 amp its truly a 135 amp.
You can find it on eBay also, but if you want to buy parts and not hunt around or custom order things, Ed can sell you the alternator and upgraded battery cables.
I believe the 140 amp unit is supposed to be the stock unit on a 2005 > truck. The 110 was 2003-2004 stock unit. Anything that's new and still gives the battery light is junk!

you were close! The 140A was the optional "high output" alternator you could order over the standard 110A. Then above that was the Dual Alt set-up. Ours is the factory 140A - that's the way we ordered it (had a camper and trailers with Batts to charge, etc.).
In MY 2008 (6.4) the 140A became the standard alternator...
on edit to the OP: there was no wiring difference between the 110A and the 140A from the factory...
