Mini maxx/EGR issues
Ok so I run a mini maxx and had my egr blocked off for a while but I did the full delete a couple of weeks ago and when I tried to turn the truck on it threw a wrench light and some codes for the egr. I had my tuner set to the easy setting because I only ever run it on stock power. My buddy suggested to return to stock and retune it which I did but it still threw the wrench. So we loaded the HD file to see if it would work which it did great. No more wrench light at all but even with me running at stock power this thing blows black smoke way too much. It's cool and all if you're pulling a sled or at the drag strip but as a daily I don't like it. A little puff here and there is fine but if I have to get on it to pass somebody or go on an on ramp I shouldnt black out all the cars behind me haha. Draws too much attention and makes everybody behind you think badly about the diesel community. I've got it on the mild tune now and will see if it still smokes a lot.
My question is, why does it throw the wrench light and codes when I have it set for a deleted truck? I like the easy tune cause it didn't smoke too bad for everyday use.

Update: Ran it in mild for a few miles and the smoke is manageable. Another Question. Why would it smoke so much with the HD tunes? Im talking about running stock power here. If its running stock power I feel like it should be the same as far as smoke throughout all levels, easy, mild, and the HD300 settings. Power felt the same so I'm not sure.

The Easy set of tunes cycle the EGR at idle...thus the error code with the EGR deleted......The mild and HD tunes do not cycle the EGR. AS far as smoke goes....what did you set your low boost fueling (LBF) to? The settings are from 0-5....0 being the lowest fueling pretty much stock setting...and 5 obviously being the highest. the higher the setting the more smoke you'll see until the turbos spool up. I believe the H&S tunes come with it set to 2 unless you change it...I ran mine at 0 and didn;t have much smoke at all.

That's what I was thinking but wasn't for sure so I figured id ask on here. Somebody was bound to know lol. I didn't adjust the low boost fueling. It might have been higher on the HD tune. I didn't even think about that. I was told by a friend that if I just left it at whatever the mini maxx had as default it would be best.

Try turning it down to 0 LBF.....you'll see less smoke when you get on the go peddle. The higher the LBF the more fuel is injected into the cylinders before the turbos get spooled up...it makes for better throttle response. Another thing is to try cleaning your ebp and maf sensors...these can gum up and also contribute to more smoke. Air filter clean?

I've cleaned mine with some carb cleaner i had around...not sure if it's the best thing to use but I've never had a problem doing it this way.
Yes you will have to re tune the truck in order to change the LBF.....it asks what you'd like to set it on in one of the first few steps in the mild and HD tunes.

I never liked the Easy tune. Boost seemed to be crazy high for no reason and there's no choice of shift tunes, and there's no TC lock in 4th.
The Mild tune shifting seemed awfully harsh. HD300 shifting was better, but it smokes more than Easy and Mild even with LBF=0. Laying on the pedal will belch smoke no matter what setting.
