I have an almost new, great working, fuel pump. I think its called the heavy duty version, has 3 connectors. Its of my 86 f250 with 351w and duel tanks.
Im working on my 84, almost the same truck, has single tank. The fuel pump on it only has 2 connectors.
Can i use the "heavy duty" pump on my 84? If i remember right the extra connector was for fuel returning to the tank.
If i was to swap the fuel puckup fron the 86 it should work ,yea? Im just trying to use the new parts i have instead of buy new again.
Im pretty sure the fuel pump on the 84 is bad, tank was full and couldnt get fuel to the carb before i started working in the truck. Gauge read empty. I did drop the tank and the fuel was very old and bad. I had a new tank so i put it in.
I might be wrong but i wouldnt need a switching valve since im only running one tank. I have all the parts on what is now my parts truck.
My under standing is the pickup has 2 lines on it. One to suck fuel to the pump and one to ruturn extra fuel from the pump back to the tank. Nothing in the middle of either lines, other than the selector on a duel tank setup.
Im not positive avout all this but pretty sure. Ill look when i can.
It sounds like you have a good game plan.
Only thing I would check for is if there is a restrictor in the return line.
I say this because I know of other makes do this with the fuel filter that has 3 ports - 1 in from pump, 1 out to carb, small 1 return to tank.
