20 years ago this month I quit smoking and using tobacco all together. Ironically, I haven't had an alcoholic drink since then either. I was never a heavy drinker but enjoyed a beer on occasion. When ever I'd have a brew, I'd want to light up. So, I quit them both.
I'll be 55 in July and I walk 12 miles per day carrying mail and have been doing this since I retired from the Coast Guard. I feel great and I'm extremely proud that I was able to kick that nasty habit for good.
Tim, that is a great accomplishment! Congrats on having the will power on quitting two nasty habits.
I'm your age, I've never really been a drinker but I use to smoke like a chimney at one point in my life. Today I still smoke an occasional Cuban cigar and follow it with an espresso. My health has been up and down ever since my heart attack 4 years ago. I know that the 35 years of smoking was the main reason for my deteriorating health. Today I walk but nothing close to your 12 miles, I do however get my mail everyday.
Right on Tim. Great to hear, although I still have an IPA after work and like you I quit chewing tob 20 years ago and you are so right about feeling great. I am happy for you buddy
Twenty years is worth commemorating but I bet it didn't take you long at all to start feeling better once you kicked the habit. Congratulations. The decision to quit and 12 miles a day will pay dividends for years to come. Well done.
