Maiden Voyage
1. Had to look a few times to see if the "Fiver" was still hooked, could hardly tell it was behind you.
2. Weighing in at approximately 14,000 Lbs. loaded the 6.7 barely broke a sweat.
3. Averaged about 9 to 9.5 MPG hauling. (mostly expressway speeds 65 to 70 MPH)
All in all I am impressed! Handled much better than I was expecting, even at highway speeds, going up a hill had power to spare.
I am running the 3.55 axle ratio, less than 5,000 miles on the vehicle. I average 18 to 19 highway empty, 15 to 16 city, and now see about 9 to 9.5 loaded/hauling the Fiver.
Will mileage improve a little after a few more miles? Is this mileage about normal considering the axle ratio and total miles on the vehicle?
Any and all comments are welcome and appreciated.
Shake Down Cruise with my new Super Duty
We just got back from a 10 day - 705 mile round trip - vacation. 630 of those miles was towing our 36' 13000+lb 5th wheel.
Average speeds were in the 70-75mpg range, with a few areas running 80ish for miles and miles.
MPG averaged 9.9 - 10.1 range.
My truck is a 2015 and just rolled 8000 miles on this trip. I've also got the 3.55 e-lock diffs.
When going to my property in the country about 130 miles away, I average about 17 on the highway not towing.... but.... that's running 80-85+mph trying to keep up with traffic on the 75mph Texas highways.
I did one slow cruising trip running about 60-65 and got 21.5mpg. But that trip was slow and boring. LOL!
On a side note: On this latest trip I finally had to add DEF. Waited til the mileage countdown got to 180ish and I had to stop for fuel and filled both on that pit stop. Took two new, sealed 2.5 gallon jugs of Peak Blue DEF I got at WalMart for $8.86 a jug two weeks ago.
Overall, fuel MPG is only slightly better than my 2004 6.0L 4x4 CCSB truck but this truck has tons more power and is way more stable towing the same trailer.
I'm definitely glad we finally upgraded!
