hi, so i have a 1992 f150 5.0L. one question is, how long/miles does the stock power steering pump last? ive replaced every pulley but that and water pump. I keep getting a squeak and just replaced the tensioner. but when i step on it to climb a hill, it downshifts and when the RPMs get high i hear a terrible rattling noise along with a slight squeak. oil pressure gauge says its reading normal, my alternator output is reading perfect, the smog pump is bypassed, a/c is an idler now. i keep losing water somehow and the engine temp stays around the left side, but cant find any leaks and dont see rust anywhere after i replaced a hose. is it possible for something like that to start rattling at a high RPM? only when RPMs are high and i have the trottle almost floored. the engine idles really strong and doesnt make sounds like that when cruising. the tranny, E4OD, is running good, but whinds out a little from 2nd to 3rd. ive asked the mech to listen to the engine and hes got about 20+ years experience so i trust his judgement when he says that it sounds really healthy for its age. i cant think of anything except a bad pump or the valves rattling. sometimes i can smell a burning cat, but idk if i'd be able to if it was mine, and the muffler i got used a junkyard but it isnt too rusty. no baffles are loose inside of the muffler. i did find a bolt between the heat shield and the cat though, but i dont hear that rattling anymore, plus it would do it at cruising speeds too i would think.
