My truck has been turning over slow, and hard starting for about a week or so. I figured new batteries we in my future. Took a road trip today about 40 miles from home to get some welding supplies and pick a 2 post lift for the shop. Came out to find it wont start. I thought it was the batteries so I asked a guy for a jump with no luck. After playing with the battery cables we got it to start only to find the belt smoking at the ac compressor. On closer inspection the ac clutch had given out and somehow got caught up on the pully and apparently the compressor had also locked up.
Oriley's was right next door and I tried to buy a belt without ac but no luck there, so it was a new compressor and belt in the parking lot of Atwoods. My brother had the compressor off when I got back with the new one and in an hour we were homeward bound. A couple hundred bucks lighter but now I get to have A/C again with and engine that spins over as it should. So I guess the moral of this story is don't always assume that slow turning over is caused by the usual suspects, like batteries, cables or a starter.
