Ok-for me this is a first as a problem. My friend has a 2003 6.0. One day it was running fine. The next day, it would not start. It would turn over but not able to generate the rpm's to start...like the starter was going bad.
Long story short, he took it to the diesel shop in our area (good guys) and they said his AC compressor had siezed up. If they pulled the belt, it started normally. Put the belt back on the AC, it would not start. He had the exact same thing repaired in AZ about a year ago. That shop didn't offer to do anything, especially with him being in MT. After he dropped 3700.00 on that repair, he can't afford that amount to have it fixed. He wondered if there was a pulley you could put in place of the AC compressor. The shop said "maybe" they could find a shorter belt but they were not optimistic.
Anyone have any ideas on managing this without the expensive repair. I've never heard of a siezed compressor stopping an engine from starting if it was turned off. Any ideas??
My 6.0's all have ac delete. ford makes what I call the anti ac idler pulley. It mounts to the block with an aluminum bracket and has a pulley on it about the size of the ac compressor pulley. And yes a locked up compressor will keep the engine from turning.
