So I've looked around and no one I've looked at seems to have a ZF6 for sale.... Looks like I'll have to rebuild it. Is this something I can do myself?

Not to be a wise guy but that would be dependent on your skills, abilities and probably some tools and/or your ability to improvise some tools. I know people who can dive right in there and take care of business but when I look in there I get lost and I'm not too bad of a mechanic. You could always give it your best college try and take it somewhere if you get jammed up, that is what I would do. And I'd bet that with some pictures you could get the help you need right here.
I've heard/read that it takes special tools/jigs to reset/align everything when reassembling
Hmm. I wasn't aware of that. I was going off of the knowledge I have for smaller transmissions from 4 wheelers and side by sides. I did order a workshop manual so I'll through there and see what I can find. Just have to wait for it to get here.

That's what I'm planning on doing
I ordered a workshop manual so I'll do my research and try to decide before I rip it all apart.
I've done several smaller transmissions from side by sides and four wheelers. I know this will be more complicated of course but I feel that if I have the manual I'll be better off (maybe? ). I'm sure I'll be scouring the forum at some point trying to find help lol.
Test drove the truck, everything is good! Except for the blower motor not working and 6th gear will go in but grinds horribly when I let the clutch out I think it's either a bent shift fork or a toasted gear. She's as good as mine! Just have to come up with the $$$ Anyone interested in a Jetta?
