If my memory serves me correctly, back in 1960, both Greyhound and Yellow Taxi in New York did an experiment. They had half of their fleet drive with lights on all the time for a month. Then they switched and the other half of the fleet drove with lights on at all times. For maybe 6 months they alternated the vehicles with lights on and those without lights on in the daytime in order to eliminate individual driver's habits. Both the bus company and the cab company reported that accident rates plummeted. I was in the Navy at the time, and from that time on, have always driven with my lights on. The new DRLs or regular head lights really do help to make your vehicle more visible to oncoming drivers, especially on country roads with lots of trees and alternate areas of sun and shade on the road, or in hot weather when heat mirages are rising from the asphalt, and during dawn and dusk.

This is a pretty good forum....though I usually hang out in the 09 - 2014 section, I come and lurk about in the 2015+ side occasionally to see what's being said about the newer models. Intel for the future I guess! LOL

You know, I don't think there's any question that DRL will improve visibility. Probably especially so in dappled shade/sunlight situations, and maybe more so depending on the color of the vehicle. I know my wife has been questioned as to why she would drive a vehicle that is so close to the color of the pavement?

The other issue is when people forget to turn on their lights when it begins to get dark. If you have DRL, it's a non-issue (with the exception of the tail light thing). I actually think it would be better if DRL included the tail lights.
