Daytime Running Lights

I have a 2006 F-350 and am thinking about installing daytime running lights. Ford Accessories sells them. Not sure why Ford didn't put em on the truck to begin with. Any advice or comments on these?

Because alot of people dislike them. The primary reason for them is soccar moms have killed to many people driving twice the vehicle they are capable of. So people in smaller cars went to the motorcycle idea of see and be seen in an effort to survive the trip to grocery store. If you have auto lights, just cover the sensor with something, so it always thinks it is dark out.

I haven't really figured out the concept either. If you want lights, why not turn the headlights on during the day? Most later vehicles have buzzers to warn you if you leave them on.

Where I live there are many two lane roads with 55mph and people get killed in head-ons alot. With running lights the accidents are much fewer and the insurance is lower if you have them. Using all the lights is sort of a waste if you don't have to and sometimes you forget to turn them on.

I added DRL's to my 2002 F150 two years ago. Trucks purchased for ownership in the USA need 2 additional items that are not installed at the factory. Canadian trucks have these items because it is mandatory there. But ALL ford trucks have the stuff already in place to make DRL's happen.

You need a resistor and a relay. They can be ordered at the dealership. They are very easily installed in 10 minutes. The only problem i see is that you have a 2006 model. Things may have changed a bit from the 2002 i have.

The 2 links below will explain how to add DRL's.

It looks more complicated than it really is...trust me. The links above are a few years old, so the prices have gone up somewhat.

You may luck out and find that you have the same wiring harnesses and be able to add the above parts to make it work. I like my DRL's very much. I upgraded the factory headlamp bulb to sylvania silverstars and was very pleased with the cleaner, whiter, brighter light.

My fog lamps are next to be upgraded to silverstars using a 9005 bulb. Good luck on your quest for DRL's on your '06 truck.

The only problem I see with DRLs is the fact that many people with manual light controls do not turn their lights on completely.

The automatic sensor types work ~OK. It seems some days they don't come on early enuf so they have to be turned on manually anyway. I have been thinking about painting a little black paint on my sensor to change the amount of light that gets to the sensor.

Daytime Running Lights

Just to let you know... I purchased a DRL kit from Ford for my 06 F350 and it is a little module with about 6 wires that have to be spliced in to existing wires under the dash after you unwrap the bundles and locate them. It is not something I would like to tackle and the dealer wants $80/hr for at least an hour to do it. I wish it was as simple as your F150!
