2. the day/night display on the stereo/gps screen is neurotic and cant decide which mode to stay in. Mostly an issue in mornings when the headlights are on. Once headlights switch off, it seems to stabilize. Their recommendation was to turn off auto
Really? Thats the only option, nothing to tell it to delay light the headlights?

This is going to be virtually impossible for anybody here to answer, as nobody here has actually seen/felt it themselves and can judge if either there is something wrong or perhaps your expectations need adjusting.

Seems the automatic electric eye that judges ambient lighting; if it's being too sensitive to your environment, then I'd agree and shut it off.

I assume that you try to accelerate, it really doesn't respond so you hit it harder and it downshifts? If so, that's been in the Escapes since at least 2009 when they first started using the 6F35 transaxle.

They've added some pretty sophisticated battery power management programming to improve mileage. It "might" be in that area.
