Hello everyone, I've been searching a lot on the forums and having trouble finding another 6.0L with same symptom. It's a 2006 f450, originally when I got the truck it would start normally run fine but when I shut it off it wouldn't start right away. Let it sit for couple hours then it'll start. Searching the forums the results was high pressure pump, I went ahead and replaced the high pressure pump. After replacing the symptoms still persisted. Few days later began idling funny and found out my injector connector was broken and I replaced it, when pulling the oil rail I also replaced the tubes that connect to the rail that have inverted Allen head. All this work was done on the passenger side.
After all the work got done with, I crank the engine takes a little bit to start. I see pressure build up and next crank it starts. Drove it for a block, just a tad bit less than a mile. Had the grin on my face man it's fixed. Spoke too soon I heard a pop from the engine, weird single pop noise. Nothing like a knock noise just strange pop and it dies. So I just coast side of the road can't get it start just cranks and nothing. I let it sit overnight crank it, I build pressure on my gauge and I removed my oil filter cover to see the rise. Yes I'm getting oil. I checked all my fuses; under the hood, under steering wheel and behind glove box. I have tried to pull codes but my scanner won't light up thinking it was a fuse but they are all good. I have went ahead and just replaced all the fuses just in case and still nothing.
I do lose pressure if I let it sit for a bit, so I'm planning looking that low pressure pump soon, but just wanna get it to start again
Thanks
So your OBDII port is dead? You've replaced all the fuses, and still nothing to the OBDII port? I'd start with chasing that down first.
Honestly not sure if this is relatable at all, but your fuse box isn't just a fuse box. There are non-serviceable electronic components inside the fuse block.
I have found the problem with the data link connector. Previous owner has tapped into power supply of DLC. I have access to an ids but have no idea what to look for in PIDS
First, make sure it has some fuel in it, preferably over 1/4 tank. Also check the batteries and put a charger on them if they are getting low from the cranking.
Next, I'd check the high pressure oil system. I assume when you posted about oil pressure coming up you were talking about the gauge on the dash? ICP (injection Control Pressure) needs to reach 500psi to start. If it doesn't, watch IPR (injection pressure regulator) it closes to raise pressure 14% is fully open (not raising pressure) 85% is fully closed (doing its best to raise the pressure). So, 500psi On ICP to start and the IPR shouldn't have to max out to make it there. Less than 500psi and 85% will be a leak in the high pressure oil system.
If that looks good check the FICM next. It should be outputting 48v FMP (FICM main power) and read battery voltage on FVP (Vehicle) and 12v on FLP (Logic).
Post back and let us know what you find. We'll try n help you get to the problem. IDS is a powerful tool and will definately get you on track.
P.s. If anyone sees the OP has posted please feel free to jump in, life has been busy for me and my attendance here on the site has been spotty lately.
Hey you were saying something about fuses behind fuse how do you fix that? Because I got power to window and radio but not the dash or obd II port? It will crank good when I jump the starter
Just cranks. Dash lights are out. Radio is on and windows. Already check the relays and fuses. I've started pulling 3 wire sensors also injector plugs no luck still. I'm thinking bad ground somewhere
I check the fuses With me eyes for relays I use a meter. I checked them all. Im going to check the fusesble links tomorrow. How do u know if there bad?
