Vin # help

Does anyone know if you can tell what rear end gear size you have by the Vin # ? Or does anyone know what gear they would put behind a 1981 f150 straight six C6 automatic ?

Not by the VIN, but the certification tag should have an area that says "axle". If there is a number there, you have an open differential, if there's a number/letter code you have a limit slip diff. By using this site created by one of our members you can decipher it.

If two numbers, you have an open differential, if there's a letter/number code you have a limited slip diff.
1959 thru today: If the AXLE code begins with a letter = Limited Slip, if with a number, no Limited Slip.

You can decode your certification label here: Certification Label - ??Gary's Garagemahal. And that'll tell you what axle ratio the truck came with.
