Determining differential from VIN?

I plan on buying a used ford van. I would like to get one with limited slip differential. Is there a way to tell using the VIN? Or do I need more info? Trying to avoid emailing the same question to every van owner, the VINs are always listed.

Thanks,
Jeff

I don't think you can get it from the VIN. You need to check the sticker on the sinde of the driver door under "axle", get the code and bring it here. Someone can figure it out for you.

Under axle on the sticker, if it starts with a letter it is a limited slip. If it starts with a number, it is open.

..or look at the differential for any tags that are attached, the information on them will let you know.

Dealerships can look up build sheets based on the VIN. Otherwise, a picture of the GVW/VIN decal from the door jamb has a nice snapshot of info - including the axle code.
