I bought a 2005 6.0 and today I changed oil and fuel filters for the first time. Top fuel filter was of course a breeze. Bottom one I followed the instructions to remove the drain plug and it was quite messy as expected. The fuel eventually drained at a slower pace and I let it drain for about 25mins. I didn't see it slowing and at that point it was just fuel. I put the plug back in and removed the filter cap. More fuel came out and it too eventually slowed to a consistent drain with no sign of stopping. I let it drain for about 20 mins. The instructions that came with the motorcraft fuel filters said to drain completely but it seemed like it was just siphoning from the tank..idk...is this normal or do i have an issue in my fuel system?
In addition to waiting until less than 1/4 tank park with front of the truck slightly uphill if possible. Parking slightly uphill I've been able to change with over 1/2 tank without issue.
On my 6.4 even with the front slightly uphill it would drain forever with a full tank. I stopped after 1/2 gallon and just waited for the fuel level to go down. Fortunately with that trucks horrible mileage it only took a couple days
With the 6.0 I haven't tried on a full tank, but I always park slightly uphill

Sorry, but that is actually sort'a funny...
I get more out on a fuller tank too, so I wait 'til about a quarter tank and can do it on the flat. On a 4x4 it is especially challenging (unless you are Jack and have relocated your HFCM ). One thing you should get is the updated drain plug. Last time I stuffed a sheet of aluminum foil up under the HFCM, then another over the front driveshaft, and fashioned both to a V shape down into my drain pan. I found if you take the drain loose slowly and leave it at more of a trickle it is way better than full-flow, bouncing off the driveshaft, splashing everywhere, back on the frame rail, running down your arms, dripping on your crotch (don't light a match)...
Well you get the idea: slower is better and the new drain will be even better yet...

Ok, this is what's going on there is a valve inside the fuel filter/fuel pump housing on the frame rail. It is stuck open. It opens and closes when you turn the pump on and off. There is trash in there. More than likely from your pickup strainer has broken off your sending unit in the fuel tank. I bet you you run out of fuel at about an eighth of a tank now don't you? And if you park your truck facing up hill it doesn't want to start. That is all caused from that valve being open when the pump is not on. Run truck to low fuel as low as you can get it. Remove the housing and take the thing apart. Clean out the trash put back together and you will be back up and running. But don't forget to fix the pickup tube in the fuel tank. Same unit is used in the 6.0L

I'm in this camp. My driveway has a slope. If I park facing downhill, it'll drain forever. If I park facing uphill, it's a short drain.
I have two of the same 2006 CCLB trucks and one will dribble if I don't wait for a 1/4 tank to change the filters.
The other one I can fill the tank and turn around and change the filter with no issues. Don't know if this has any effects
or not. I do the lower filter first and they I move onto the upper filter.
