Shorter rod = reduced braking. I was responding to vettex2's comment about using a longer rod.
No, it will not as long as the pedal doesn't hit the floor. As long as the stroke remains the same there is no difference.
I've played with this before on race vehicles
Now if you shortened the brake pedal lever, you'd be right.

I am currently on my 6th Ford van since 1980. None of the other vans had the problem of brake height that my '11 does. If I pump it once it stays up, but if not it goes way down like you all are talking about. I have been to Ford and a brake specialists and they both say there is nothing wrong. I say BS! All together I have put over a half million miles on these trucks and this is the only one with a brake issue.

This sounds like a mechanical issue just as you suspect---either a leaking cylinder, brake line (hard or flexible), caliper or air has somehow found its way into your system. A faulty master cylinder could also be at fault.
I believe the original topic here was more about a comfort level, the different "height" of the brake pedal in normal driving compared to the location of the accelerator pedal.
If your problem persists its time to find better shops or take matters into your own hands if DIY is a possibility.

Hi Roger,
sounds like a bad seal in the master. Check the boot around the pushrod on the brake pedal where it enters the firewall. If you find fluid there, certain seal failure. http://www.agcoauto.com/content/imag...er_leakage.jpg
