That's me----of course I really, really wish XP-Pro wasn't so laden with internet security issues, I'd still be running it!

At some point in the semi-near future I'll look at Macintosh if only to begin familiarizing myself with it in the overall.

From what little I know about Win10 is it's MS's way of having users pay a recurring fee, trying to force everyone onto "the cloud".

Do keep in mind as of this date I have NO experience whatsoever with Win10.

i love XP, and think it is the best operating system ever.
they can do what they want, but i will never ever share any info or put any info anywhere that i am not in full control of it.

my life does not revolve around a computer or phone. if it gets to the point where some know it all tells me i have to share everything, i will just get rid of all the electronics and go crawl back under a rock.
the way i see it is, i do not need all this high tech stuff, all this high tech stuff needs me.

There are two updates you can remove or not accept when Windows wants to update itself. They are identified by the numbers: KB3035583 and KB3004394.

Remove them if they're installed now---should stop Win10 from self-installing.

here's the real trick to stop OS auto upgrade , but keep Windows update on .
Registry:
To block the upgrade to Windows 10 through Windows Update, specify the following registry value:
Subkey: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUp date
DWORD value: DisableOSUpgrade = 1
GPO:
Computer Configuration
To block the upgrade by using Computer Configuration, follow these steps:
Click Computer Configuration.
Click Policies.
Click Administrative Templates.
Click Windows Components.
Click Windows Update.
Double-click Turn off the upgrade to the latest version of Windows through Windows Update.
Click Enable.
Policy path: Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Windows Update Policy
Setting: Turn off the upgrade to the latest version of Windows through Windows Update

Just don't install these updates..

Windows 10 related Updates

KB 3035583
KB 3150513
KB 2977759
KB 2952664
KB 2976978

The first one is the one that puts the Win 10 Icon in the system tray

You can remove them if they are installed

In Windows 7:

Control Panel > System and Security > Review Computer Status >Action Center. Lower left hand corner find "windows update"; when that page opens look for View Update History. The resulting list will include everything MS has downloaded with its KB number.

I look at the last two digits first for the affected items to be removed. There is almost never two or more KB numbers that are even closely similar. Remove the numbers shared here.

There's a search bar in the top right corner , you can just type in the kb number and if it's installed it will appear .
little easier than manually searching list for each kb .

Honestly, from a sys admin perspective (or one who oversees sys admins), the worst part of Windows 8.1/8 and Windows 10 has been the metro apps. It can be a pain in the behind to remove them. And I have noticed once removed they sometimes come back whether removed via powershell command or right-click uninstall.
If we wanted to upgrade all computers to Enterprise, we could probably handle this via group policy.
