My '68 looks like that. It's hard to see because mine has the hood latch hardware bolted to it.
Was the hood closing properly before? Has the truck been hit? Just wanting to know why you're concerned.
Well I've had the truck since 1988 and I recently started working on it after a long rest in the garage. This is not the original grill. I just found this out as the original color of the truck was prairie yellow and the upper panel was blue und the yellow.
I haven't been able to see any good pics on the internet as to the correct shape around the hole there. I think the hood closed proper as I sometimes get the CRS syndrome. I just like everything to be as correct as I can make them.
Thanks for your input / help.
Upper Valance Panels and Lower Hood Latch ReceiversThere were two different lower hood latch receivers, which required changes to the upper valance panel.
Upper Valance Panels and Lower Hood Latch ReceiversThere were two different lower hood latch receivers, which required changes to the upper valance panel. In the left picture, the '67-'68 latch receiver is on bottom and the '69-'72 style is on top. You can use an early-style latch receiver with a later valance, but not vice-versa. The later receiver will not fit an early valance panel. (click to enlarge)
Top: '67-'68
Bottom: '69-'72
In the top picture the 69 - 72 is on top and 67 - 68 is on the bottom.
The caption under the bottom picture is right the 69 - 72 had a offset in the front of the opening for the latch.
Yes. Thank You Randle. I don't know why, but for some reason my computer jumbled what I grabbed from "the other site" when I pasted it here. On that site what I grabbed was horizontal. But my computer didn't paste it here that way originally. I just edited my post. Kudos Buddy,
Thanks a bunch. My main concern was the angle of the flange that the latch is bolted to is bent. I did some work with a hammer and dolly to straighten it some. Then I figured I better get some advise from you all about the shape of the flange.
