Howdy all. Today, when I was stopped at a red-light, pointed up hill, I could feel my tires spinning trying to gain traction when the light turned green. Eventually it did and everything was fine. I made a block and tried again to make sure it wasn't a fluke and it did it again. Dry road conditions. Good tires. Any ideas what this could be?

Reason: Misspell
Are you sure it is not the transmission slipping? Try holding the brakes firmly and press the accelerator, if the revs go up more than they should but the tires don't spin, it may be slipping.
I haven't tried spinning my tires on purpose no. Lol. But I suppose I have an excuse now. It shifts fine, every now and then I have to take my foot of the go pedal just a smudge for it to go into third, when it's cold. I sure hope it's not slipping.
If the rear diff was "slipping" you would really hear it. It would be a very ugly sound. Did you by a chance check the trans fluid recently after changing? How did it look when you changed it?
Actually I was quite mad when I dropped the pan. It was bright red and fresh. Wasted money for nothing. Except maybe peace of mind. I bought the truck Jan 31. I guess they could have changed it bc of similar problems. And didn't say anything. But they meticulously maintained it due to service records. One owner. 141000 actual miles. Ford installed new transmission at 40000 miles in 94. Stayed a farm truck it's entire life until I bought it. Had new injectors and pump last year. She really drives super good. It never slips while normal driving or pulling a hill.
Am i missing something? Pretty hard to mistake spinning tires for a slipping transmisson... Front brakes hanging up can do this. Was really bad on my 77 till i got around to replacing the calipers. Probably have a piston hanging up.

You know what? When I changed the front pads I noticed they were all at the same wear except the pad in the right caliper that is against the pistons. There was hardly any material left. It could be hanging up. I greased the slide joints good, but I'll check again. I don't hear a dragging noise. I dont honest think the trans is slipping. But then again, it did it twice on the same hill. I'll try it again tomorrow. It does bark the tires around turns as it shifts up sometimes
could be released in the cab but still stuck .. esp possible if farm truck had sat awhile .. look and see if the plastic over the pb wire sheaths is intact or just fallen off rusty ..
could likely be a sticky caliper ^^ also possibly a busted spring / hardware riding around in a drum out back ..

I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and do those rear brakes. I have the new shoes and wheel cylinders. Once I get the drums off, that should answer some questions. I'll check the parking brake in the morning. But has this actually happened to you guys before??
yep .. my parking brake cable stuck .. it was old n' rusty and i had been using it anyway .. then one day it locked up titer then a tick .. i crawled under and yanked and pulled and only got it somewhat released .. dragged anyways for a few days and 'popped wheelies' too ..
but when i finally did pull my drums .. to do the cables up new .. i found the hardware scrambled in one wheel and a spring riding around inside getting 'shiny' .. my truck sat for 10 years so .. probably had something to do with it .. but it was a great thing to go through all the pb cables and drums and clear em' up ..
