My '68 Mustang Caught Some Major Air

....well, that's just because it's up on a rotisserie.

My shop has gotten completely out of hand with parts and junk accumulated everywhere. It's time for a major thinning out of things around here and some reorganization to put things back in order.

I'm going to take the '68 hull off the rotisserie, fold the rotisserie up and put it away. I hung the front suspension (except for the coil springs), rear leaf springs and the bare 9-inch rear end housing on the '68 last night. This evening, I put the 3rd member, axles and the loaner wheels on it so when I set it down, I'll be able to roll the Mustang around.

Sadly, that's just it. When I pulled the Mustang apart in '09, I didn't know 7 years later the only progress on it would be the thickness of dust that's accumulated on it. --of course, the '69 F100 came along in 2011 and my attention got diverted away from the Mustang, for the time being.

Having 'pig trails' through your shop is a henderence that wastes time when you can't just freely walk through it. It also takes up valuable working space with junk being everywhere. I can't take it anymore.

I have to fix the right front inner fender apron and the lower right corner of the core support --battery acid damage --common on these old Mustangs.

This is what the '68 looked like when I bought it in September, 1982. I was two weeks away from my 16th Birthday. Looked like a Roughstang.

What it looked like when I was a senior in high school, 1985.

This was taken in '06 but, this is what it looked like up until '09 when I pulled it completely apart and put it on the rotisserie.

Thats awesome, owning a car for 34 years.

That would make a good thread, to see member's post vehicles that they have owned since way back.

Glad to see you working on the Mustang. I always figured down time was just planning time for an awesome build.

Unfortunately, I'm not presently "working" on my '68 Mustang. I'm only putting the suspension/wheels back on it so I can move (push) it around.

A couple of years ago, I did a lot of work on a '67 Mustang that belongs to a local guy. He bought the Weld Draglight wheels that I had on my Mustang --15" x 5" front/15" x 8" rear. The (temporary) late '90s V6 Mustang wheels I just put on my car were borrowed from the guy I did the work for.

This is the '67 Mustang I did the work on that belongs to the guy.

Here, I'm drilling the spot welds out to replace the rusted out inner fender apron.

Here, I'm drilling new A-arm mounting holes 1" lower than stock (Shelby/Arning drop).

I cut out the rusted portions of the floor pans and welded new sections back in.

200 inline six and the Top-Loader 3-spd manual ready to go back in.

Stock 4-lug drums gone and 5-lug disc brakes installed.

Engine/transmission back in. I made new brake and fuel lines and a steel vacuum line to the distributor for it.

Except for the headlights and the backup lights not being installed when this was taken, all the work was finally done on the '67.

....meanwhile, this came along and took up my time from my own Mustang --and took all my discretionary money too! Darned old trucks!

Those Darned old trucks have a way of doing that. LOL Lookslike you did agood job on the 67. My next step is to drop the rear suspension out of mine, I'm going to replace the rear frame sections and trunk floor sections, and will be putting a 8" rear end out of a parts car back in it.

You know, you could always store that rotisserie at my place, I'd be more than happy to keep that for you.....

Those first pics could almost be my 66 Mustang. Sitting in gray primer with all the sheet metal off waiting to get finished. Waiting since 2007/8. Lots of dust and a few pig trails too. Side tracked by a truck(s) and not being diligent about getting it back together. It deserves better...had it 43 years.
