My "Limp Home Mode" experience.

I'm an absolute newbie to diesel trucks and I don't fancy myself to be a mechanic, so this post is for other folks like me. I've also seen a lot of posts in regard to this topic, so I thought I would share.

I bought a used 2008 F-250 about a month ago. It's an extremely clean truck. I was surprised to find the check engine light on last week and that the truck had zero power. I limped on over to Autzone and grabbed the codes which revealed issues with the map/boost sensor. Thankfully, at next restart, the truck had power back, but the check engine light was still on. I then drove it about 30 miles to my diesel mechanic. Turns out, and news to me, that the prior owner had babied the truck so much that there was massive coke build up in the intake and on the sensors, in turn messing up the mapping.

With that said, my mechanic suggested that I start working the truck harder which I plan on doing.

The 6.4 was not meant to be a truck to drive to the grocery store. It is best used to work, but well maintained.

I drive mine like I stole it haha. Unfortunately I also drive mine to the grocery store but I'm not cramming my 6'4" self into my wife's scion. I basically sit in its backseat. Just got to keep up maintenance very strictly and work it hard. I hope you come to love the truck like many of us do.

Lol. I have the same problem, 6'2" and 240 lbs. No way I'm taking the wife's VW to the store. I'll be pulling my trailer up hill for about 2 hours tonight

I did! All cleaned out, one or two new sensors and she's running strong. I've been racing all over town and enjoying it. It's running really strong and really smooth.
