So a year and a half ago my 2012 F250 had a wiper problem. They wouldn't turn off. Around the same time the truck was also having regeneration issues. So when I brought the truck in I reported both problems. After a re-programming the issue with the regeneration went away and as luck would have it the wiper problem did as well, if the issue came back in a week they would have replaced the multi-function switch.
1.5 years later my wipers are now stuck on, the best part being my truck is no longer under warranty.
It's been diagnosed as the multifunction switch, as it was before, so I already owe the dealer $89 bucks. If they fix the issue it's gonna cost me $270 bucks all together. They will contact ford and see if it will get repaired under their loyalty program but it seems like I'll need to pay for all the repairs first and then in the neighborhood of two days I'll have my answer. I'd have to pay for everything upfront right now.
I can buy the multifunction switch for $30 and do it myself.
Should I be mad at myself for simply not bringing the truck in after a week even with no problem, so it's not like it would get fixed anyway. Should I be mad at the dealer for simply not doing the full repair, or not warranting what I think is a half–measure for more than a year.
Maybe Ford will pull through with the loyalty program, but right now it sounds like if I wanna go that route I need to pay for the full repair even though the task is simple enough to do on my own for less, but it's a gamble when what I already owe and what I might owe could be covered.
The part they replaced has a 2-year unlimited warranty. So even though the truck is out of warranty, that part still has a bit left on it.
Ask them about the 2-year/unlimited mile warranty on Genuine Ford parts and Motorcraft.
That's the rub, they never put in the part. It's listed as something they would do on my service report. If they thought it was faulty then whats the difference now? I'm thinking if they believe that was it, they should have done it then. If the truck has history of that problem and a record of it not getting fixed then, why doesn't it matter now?
If after a year and a half Ford steps up this is your lucky day. If not hindsight is 100% correct. Really no ones fault, sh** happens.
Yeah I get that. Just feel like the problem wasn't handled properly the first time when it wouldn't have been so annoying.
I think it's a matter of will ford or the dealer own up to the problem that should have been addressed, or do I wanna risk paying $270. Cut my loss pay the $89 I owe and do it myself
I agree with the S*** happens. After 1.5 years, I doubt I would be mad.
For me, this is not an expensive repair but I would see if I could find an internet video that showed me how to do this and then decide. I've replaced outside mirrors on a Ford Truck and installed a pop-n-lock, shocks, cab lights. All stated with finding a video and watching someone else in action.
If I couldn't find a video, I'd pay the $270. Not a huge amount for work getting done at a dealer.

Fair. I think the price is a bit expensive, to each his own and you're right this is the dealer. I just figure, if they replaced the part when it first went bad then it would have been easier on my pocket. The good news is other people have done the fix themselves, which is probably what I should have done from the start.
I also get it on their part, the problem stopped after the truck was reprogrammed. But then why tell me they suspect this part and then do nothing. They saw the problem and diagnosed it then, the difference now is my warranty is up and it's the same part. Still diagnosed as not working.
The part is $30 online, the dealer is in communication with ford. I guess I'll see where it goes.
I did watch a few videos online and thought it was something that I would attempt. Especially when the savings are so much.
My dealer does all my maintenance. $125 oil changes and $180+ fuel filter changes. I'm just use to dealer prices.
I drove new GM products for a number of years. Maybe this is not fair but in my very limited experience, GM seems to be better at warranty work than Ford. Although I have had few problems with my Fords, I read here, all too often, about Ford not fixing things 100%, the first time, all the time. My GM dealers loved to toss parts at my broken vehicles. It was not un-common for me to take my vehicle into the GM dealer for one item and they noticed and fixed several other things too. That does not seem common at Ford. Of course, my Fords never seem to break and my GMs were at the dealership far too often. Just my experience though. Plenty of good GM and Fiat products on the market and they seems to perform better for other people.
Agreed, I haven't had to take my truck in often. I started to do my own oil and filter service since the cost is about half. Haven't had too many issues, maybe I just sour because I'm outa warranty now.

Sometimes there is an order for repairing certain things. If they reprogrammed the truck and it didn't mess up for a year and a half there is the possibility that they did fix the problem at that place in time and over the course of time that other part took a physical dump. You'll never know therefore I myself would not be playing the name game.

Yeah, I was a bit heated this morning. Ford told the dealer that if it happened in a year they would have covered it, but a year and 6 months no dice.
I've settled with he dealer, or at least come to appreciate that at least they did attempt at getting it done through ford. Do I wish this problem was looked into a bit more? Sure, but as stated before hindsight is 20/20.
I ordered the part through fordparts directly from the dealer I work with (a bit over amazon price) they put the part in the cab and at least be able to do the repair myself this evening. I paid for the diagnostic, which is more than fair. I just don't see or feel like paying more for the simple task.

I also just noticed this, thats a good deal. My dealer chargers about $180 for the oil change that doesn't include the fuel filter, and like $240 for the one that does. So my half price myself is almost your full price.
