I just bought and drove my truck home yesterday. The guy advertised it as a 302 with a mild cam. Turns out it is a 360, but I dont know if it has a stock cam, mild cam, rv cam or what.
First question, is there a way without removing the cam, as to what it is? Maybe not the specific name, but the specs or whatever?
Next question, can I run it with stock 2100 carb? Manifolds? Intake? I mean, will I rob more mpg if I dont try to find out what it is and match it up?
The exhaust looks fairly "new", like within the last half decade. The exhaust manifolds dont leak, no pin holes. When it idles, it's pretty rumbly, and when I rev it, it tips the truck back and forth, lol. Thats all my tech savvy in a bucket.
If it's not broken then no need to fix it.
No way to know cam specs unless you measure the rocket arms lift with a dial indicator. Then you'll have to match it to one of many companies who grind camshafts. So for get that dream. Is Carb to small most likely. That you'll get more power and worst gas mileage with a 4brl.. Read the spark plugs for correct color for carb jetting.

most cams are stamped with some kind of info on the front face , so if you remove water pump, timing cover, timing set you might get some numbers to look up on the internet . But that's a lot of work for little pay back . Like others said if its not broke don't fix it .
Oh, it's broke, don't let me con you, lol. I was driving the 60+ miles, on the Los Angeles freeway mess, with white knuckles at top speed of 45ish to get it home. But that's whst we choose to do, right?
I am going to take it slow, slow money, no huge hp gains or squeezin juice out of it. I want a daily short tripper and a weekend midtripper.
All these oe parts are cheaper as heck, so anything that can be replaced cheaper than mess with, will be. Every gasket is leaking, carb needs rebuild, the whole shibang. Im going to check the comprression tonight and see where I sit.
Thanks for the heads up on the crank numbers being on the end. I will be sure to look into it when i get to the timing chain replacement.
Im tossing all my pics into my album as I go. The first ones are from what the seller put in the ad. Not beautiful, but pretty much what I was looking for, a wrencher.
