Okay, I have a 67 f250. The previous owner did and engine swap. So the truck now has a 71 460, with a mallory UNILITE distributor, and an edelbrock 1406. The motor is mated to a C6.
To start the engine cold I have to choke it and Crack the throttle just off idle...
It sputters/misses at idle and while running.. I've checked plug wires, electrical, gaps on plugs. Fuel is fresh, I have NOT tried to tune the carb (don't know where to start), and I have no idea what's causing the sputter/miss.
Welcome to FTE and the Bumpside Kingdom!
Do you have any vacuum leaks? Old vacuum hoses, carb gasket, brake booster, Dizzy's vacuum advance, tranny's vacuum modulator etc. If not then I'd figure out if your problem is spark or fuel/carb. When you checked the gap on the plugs did you read them? Put a spark plug in the Dizzy end of the coil wire. With some insulated handle pliers hold the spark plug on a ground. Have a buddy crank it over and look to see if you get a strong blue spark.
Welcome to the forum! Get a Ford Truck shop manual. The CD versions are about $30. Read the "tech links" that HIO put together (at the top of the forum page) that will cover a lot of possible questions, and future projects too. Like "351 Cleveland" said, call the guys at Edelbrock, and get all the info you can about the carb. You may be able to download from their website.
