4wd Original or Alteration??

There is a 60 F100 on ebay claiming to be a factory 4wd truck however it doesn't have any of the items that have been vetted quite a few times on this forum as a factory 4wd truck such as: Cab reinforcements and Model & Front Axle call outs. Could this truck be factory despite having these items?

Now the truck has a 59 grill and i have seen a few early 60's that claim this was factory, i can't speak to this either way. Can anyone else weigh in on this??

You can see the truck at this link: (bid for truck ended today)

It's a 4WD conversion. If you look at the pic of the Rating Plate (post #1), the MODEL code is F100, the GVWR is 5,000 lbs. = F100 2WD

If it was factory 4WD, the MODEL code would be F103 or F105 w/a 5,600 lbs. GVWR or F104 w/a 4,000 lbs. GVWR (see pic below)

As far as being all original, it ain't. The outside mirrors are from an auto parts store, this type of Ford mirror was introduced in 1973.

The radio antenna is another auto parts store replacement.

The paint isn't correct either, the COLOR code is BM: B = Turquoise; M = Corinthian White.

btw: The series code (1st 3 digits of the VIN) is F10 and was used for both F100 2WD & F100 4WD

Judges on National Venues must not be too versed in the differences on these trucks if he is winning awards with a conversion and not the real thing. Well after the initial request on the VIN plate he ignored my questions.

Thank you both for you confirmations.

This is my 60 F100 4x4

ND - Would the F104 be a Short Bed vs the F103 that are customarily Long Beds? Were 4x4 offered in SB? Or were all 4x4 factory trucks only offered as a LB?

Those damn after market mirrors are my nightmare, the PO of my truck put them on, and I need to fix the damage.

Four holes, no dimpling on passenger side, but on drivers side they didn't use four holes they made four more with sheet metal screws and puckered the skin. Amazing how much damage can be done in a heartbeat. I've replaced mirrors, but have not tried to mess with the holes yet.

Looking better, but holes still there.

Only one wheelbase is listed for 1959 & 1960 F100 4WD's .. 118" .. which negates the short bed.

The short bed didn't becomes available with the 4x4 drivetrain until the introduction of the coil spring front suspension on 1966.
