What's up guys? I browsed through the site and couldn't find a solid solution to a problem I'm having. I have a 2001 expedition xlt 4.6l and I have this humming noise. When I accelerate, it goes away. Now browsing through the forums I found alot of people saying it's probably the PCV valve. Which was my first guess as well. But mine is brand new. (About a month old). My car was doing it before I replaced it but it wasn't that bad. Now it's annoyingly loud. Any one have an idea? Any info would be great. Thank you in advance.
If it goes away under acceleration when you have low vacuum I would say you have a vacuum leak somewhere, it could be in vacuum controls for the climate control or anything else controlled by vaccum.

Thanks for all the advice! So here is an update as to what the car is doing now after the fix.
I went ahead and replaced Idle Air Control Valve. Cleaned the holy hell out of the throttle body, installed new gaskets, and cleaned the little holes that the IAC hooks up to. Also replaced a hose that hooks up right on top of the throttle body and leads over to a green L shaped fitting that plugs into some black round thing. Sorry, I don't know what its called. It's hooked right up on the firewall of the 4.6L. The humming noise is gone.... WIN!
HOWEVER....
Now I've noticed this thing the car is doing. I press the gas pedal to accelerate and the rpms fly way up there but it feels like the car isn't accelerating with that punch that it did earlier in the day right before I cleaned and changed the parts.
So.... I don't know maybe there's something I did wrong. I replaced the IAC cleaned changed.com hoses, started the car heard no noises and drove home. Is there more to changing the IAC that I am not aware of?
From a dead stop, I used to be able to tap the accelerator /gas pedal, and my expedition would up and fly now it's a tap and the gas pedal feels soft. A slight tap and the rpms will jump to about 1500. And if I gun it. It'll still go as high as about 4000 before reaching a normal speed. Before I cleaned iac and throttle body it didn't do this, there felt like there was more I guess pressure on the gas pedal while the car was accelerating. After a hard acceleration. The gas pedal pretty much feels weightless until it's almost at the floor. Any ideas?

yep a IAC can make some weird noises and no it is pretty straight forward process, just make sure the mating surfaces are clean, which it would seem you did.
Did you remove the throttle body to clean it?? or did you remove the whole throttle body housing?
gotta wonder if you didn't get everything hooked back up correctly?? double check that the vacuum lines are hooked up correctly.
the pedal should feel as it did before...the "snappy throttle response" seems right. Are you sure the throttle cable is routed correctly or maybe is missing a return spring?

I went ahead and re checked and the cables were good. Hoses were good too. Upon further research I found that someone had the same issue on a forum somewhere. They turned the key to the on position without starting the car held that for about 10 seconds and turned it to off. Did the same thing 3 times and the car functioned again. I tried it and surprisingly it worked like a charm.
Car is idling very smoothly. No vacuum leaks, and has the same pickup as before but ALOT smoother acceleration. No shakes and best of all no humming noise lol.

Gotta love when stuff like that works
thanks for posting back the results
No problematter. Apparently the reason for this is that when the iacar is disconnected SOMETIMES it needs the computerus to essentially " re teach" it on how to do its thing. Pretty cool to know
