Transmission noise
Our 95 Explorer Ltd. is making a strange noise....an almost whistling tonal noise when driving about 30 mph, and letting off the gas (coasting). It goes away as soon as you give it enough gas to load-up the transmission....i.e., when it is making torque.
Any ideas?

does it sound like a humming or someone blowing over a bottle, If so then it is your IAC Valve. this is very common on 95 ecplorers. the valve costs $50 and is easy to change

AllDataDIY says there was a (warranty covered) Bulletin that told of a whistle in the throttle body. My 97 4.0L OHV has the whistle. the only time it does it is at cruising altitude, and you can change the whistle with the throttle. The engine hasta be under load though. Cannot make it do it not mooooving...
